About Us

God’s Gift of Love Inc. (GGOL) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focused on serving some of South Georgia’s most vulnerable populations. These populations include senior citizens and children that come from low-income households.

In our bustling society, we don’t often pause to applaud and appreciate our elders who have had such a positive impact on our lives. Their impact has paved the way for so many innovations and breakthroughs in our society. They give endlessly and unselfishly to ensure the well-being of those that come after them. Sadly, most senior citizens live in a life of poverty or do not have the economic means to support themselves. God’s gift of love has supported senior citizens in paying for bills, supplying meals and even a means of transportation.

As we all know the children are our future. With1 out of 5 young people living in poverty and 1 out of 6 failing to graduate high school we know there is a need for children to gain support of people that care. Rather the support involves academic support, counseling, fellowship or assisting with school supplies, God’s Gift of Love stepped in.

We bring together the resources and “people power” to make the young and old live a more fulfilled life. We believe in building the community and families, one house at a time.

Mission and Vision

To provide the gift of love to senior citizens and children facing adversity with strong relationships and faith that endures while encouraging professionally supported one-to-one fellowships that improve the lives of the community forever.

Provide an unforgettable feeling that love is within reach of every person who needs our services. We pride ourselves on demonstrating good character and citizenship, and helping others live a happy and healthy lifestyle.

History Highlights

God’s Gift of love had its beginnings in 1990 when Essie Hill-Mathis wanted to give back to the community after a woman (Ms. Colbert) in church paid for her daughter’s choir robes. This act of love brought her to tears and she vowed to her daughters that they would have kindness, love and compassion for those that are less fortunate. She started by collecting can goods and delivering them to the senior citizens in the neighborhood. Later she would ask her daughters to sing for donations to pay for utilities bills and purchase fans during the summer for senior citizens that were in need. She also prepared hot meals and delivered them to senior citizens in the neighborhood.

Where God’s Gift of Love started in 1996

A few years later, after realizing her health was not conducive to serving the community, Essie Hill-Mathis asked for help from her mother and sisters in 1996 and founded “God’s Gift of Love”. God’s Gift of Love was formed with 15 members with love and support from close friends and family.

Essie was a virtuous woman; who despite her own challenges, worked to carry out the will of God and to spread His Love.  Essie Jean Hill Mathis, passed away in 2004; however, her dream to empower, encourage and uplift others while enduring tests and trials still lives on.  In the absence of Essie, God’s Gift of Love did not falter.  Her mother, daughters and sisters ensured that her dream would continue to be fulfilled.

Your kindness and generosity will be a welcome gift to someone in need. Your gift may provide such necessities as shelter and food and such life-renewing assistance as rehabilitation and counseling.
